Koper-Izola Coastal Road (Parenzana)

Koper-Izola Coastal Road (Parenzana)

The 6.5 km stretch of road between Koper and Izola was once a main traffic thoroughfare but is now a “green oasis” dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists. It follows the path of the former Parenzana narrow-gauge railway.

How to get there

The road starts at Žusterna in Koper and ends at the entrance to Izola. It is closed to motor vehicles, making it a safe haven for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Why visit?

It offers one of the most scenic coastal experiences in Slovenia. You can enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Trieste and swim in various small, natural rocky coves along the path. It’s also famous as the site where the Italian ocean liner Rex was sunk during World War II.
